Brief Elegy for a Burned-out Church
decades for building
an hour for burning:
bare-ruined choirs
where generations sang
and prayed for strength
to endure continued indignity,
now offer silent testimony
to the hatred of arsonists
who worship the same God
but hear only what
they want to hear.
Arthur Turfa comes form Pennsylvania but has lived for ten years in the Midlands of South Carolina. Places and Times, his first book of poetry, was released by eLectio Publishing in 2015; he has other poems published elsewhere.
